Aurora Budget 2024 Proposes A Moderate 3.9% Increase

Interesting that the Town of Aurora had to issue a “pretty comprehensive” comparison report just to state that the Town of Aurora’s budget proposes a moderate 3.9% increase on the tax bill in 2024 and is “not the lowest” in York Region.

Check below. It seems that the Town of Aurora is still overtaxing us by collecting surpluses (unused budgeted money) and padding the reserves.

Report No. FIN23-031: 2022 Audited Financial Statements and Audit Report

The full accrual version of the financial statement presents a much larger surplus than budget variance reporting

“The audited Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) basis financial statements for 2022, as currently drafted, reflect an operating surplus of $17,792,000. This amount reconciles to the internal report combined tax and user rate funded operating budget surplus of $2,402,700.

Tax Rate Stabilization Reserve (Closing Balance as of December 31, 2022) – $6,276,200.
