September 15, 2023: Mayor Mrakas in fact wrote a commitment letter to The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing.
“The Town of Aurora is committed to helping address the housing crisis facing Ontario. Today, as Mayor, I am committing to accelerating the Town of Aurora’s housing supply with a housing pledge of 8,000 residential units to meet current and future housing needs to 2031.“
However, Mayor Mrakas, in his weekly column, writes alternative facts about strong mayor powers, referring to that the powers were granted to him. They were not. For your information, Mrakas did the same last term about the ward system implementation where he publicly wrote in his column that the Governance Committee recommended wards. We never did.
